So you think you want a Beardie?

Think carefully before you take on a Bearded Collie.  If you can answer ‘yes’ to the following questions then a Beardie may be the dog for you:

  1. Am I prepared to have muddy feet through unrestricted areas of my house?
  2. Am I prepared for at least ten minutes grooming every day?
  3. Am I prepared to give this demanding dog play, training and exercise every day?

Getting a Puppy

Always contact a reputable breeder.  Be wary of adverts placed on the internet – there are sadly many unscrupulous breeders and puppy farms in operation.  The Club holds a list of breeders with puppies available and are happy to offer advice on the process of purchasing a puppy.  Please see our Puppy List page for further information.

There were only just over 300 Kennel Club registered puppies bred in the UK in 2019, so litters are few and far between and you may have to be patient before finding that new addition to your family.  Approved breeders will always ‘vet’ potential owners thoroughly before agreeing to part with a puppy and they will always make sure that the puppy is right for you.  Some breed lines have a stronger working drive than others so it is important to fully understand the temperament and requirements of your puppy.

Adopting a Beardie

Southern Beardie Aid is a rescue service that helps find new homes for Beardies in need.  A dog may need a new home for many reasons. Sometimes these dogs have not had the best starts in life and will need a lot of time and attention but often they are normal family pets who, through no fault of their own, just need a new family to love.  Please see our Southern Beardie Aid page for further information.
